The fastest way to apply for a director identification number (director ID) is online at abrs.gov.au

You must apply for your own director ID. No one can apply on your behalf.

1. To apply online you need a:

  • Digital ID, such as myID with at least a Standard identity strength (if you don’t have one, visit How to set up myID)
  • smart device to download the myID app

2. Gather:

  • your tax file number (TFN)
  • your residential address
  • information from 2 documents to verify your identity (the documents you can use are listed at abrs.gov.au/verify)

3. Go to abrs.gov.au/directorIDapply and select Login

4. Enter your myID email address

5. A 4-digit code will appear in your browser

6. Log in to your myID app on your smart device and accept or enter the code

7. A link to ATO screen will open on your browser

8. Use your gathered documents to answer the questions and submit

9. The director ID page will open. Select ‘Apply for a director identification number’

10. Confirm all the declarations and submit the information

Your director ID should now appear on screen
